Chula Vista Genealogical Society Activities in November 2024

  The Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) (https://chulavistagenealogysociety.wildapricot.org/) hosts four genealogy-related meetings each month.  

The November 2024 meetings are:

1)  General Meeting with a program speaker:  Wednesday, 27 November 2024, 12 noon PST on Zoom, hosted by President Karen Smith.  Registration is open at   https://chulavistagenealogysociety.wildapricot.org/event-5758068 .  This month's speaker is Cheri Hudson Passey on "How to Use the FamilySearch Catalog."  The speaker's handout will be available for a limited time to members only.


2)  Research Group Meeting on Wednesday, 13 November 2024 at 12 noon PST on Zoom, hosted by Randy Seaver (Research Chair).  Registration is open at   https://chulavistagenealogysociety.wildapricot.org/event-5549040.  This meeting discusses   recent genealogy industry news, research tips and techniques, and how they apply to your genealogy research.  A handout is available after the class.

3)  Genealogy Education Class on Tuesday, 19 November 2024 at 1 p.m. PST in-person at Bonita-Sunnyside Library (4375 Bonita Road, Bonita CA 92002), hosted by Karen Smith.   Registration is open at https://chulavistagenealogysociety.wildapricot.org/event-5695421.  The focus of this month’s class will be on Lineage Societies and What They Offer You. This class provides an opportunity to work with fellow genealogists, ask genealogy questions and share your family tree generation chart. Working on basic genealogy skills and resources, this class can benefit any level of genealogist. Every Tuesday class is different, depending on the needs of the group.  

4)  DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 at 12 noon PST on Zoom, hosted by Randy Seaver (Research Chair).  Registration is open at   https://chulavistagenealogysociety.wildapricot.org/event-5549058 .  This meeting discusses recent genetic genealogy news, DNA testing and analysis, and how they apply to your genealogy research. A handout is available after the class.

Annette Burke Lyttle owns Heritage Detective, LLC, providing professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. She speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the international, national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. She is coordinator of the Intermediate Foundations course and the Writing the Series of Our Ancestors course for the Salt Lake City Institute of Genealogy, leads Best Practices Study Groups for a number of organizations, and is president of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Don’t assume “official” government records are truthful. Learn how to seek corroborating evidence, evaluate conflicting evidence and examine motives of informants – in this case a single woman applying for a passport.

Jay is a board-certified genealogist based in Roseville, Minnesota.  He is a family history enthusiast with more than 25 years of genealogy research experience. His favorite research targets are the English Tidballs and the Fawkners of Kentucky and Indiana, but he also dabbles in Dutch, German, Swedish, and Norwegian research.
